North Star Consortium

North Star Library Consortium

The North Star Library Consortium provides a web-based centralized library catalog and management system for the school and special libraries of Minnesota. It began as a joint project of Northern Lights Library Network and Region 1, Moorhead. Stage two involved adding  CMLE member libraries. Then, in January 2009, the Consortium became available statewide. Follett’s Destiny software is centrally hosted and administered at Region I, in Moorhead, MN. Training and administration of the Consortium is provided by Northern Lights Library Network, Central MN Libraries Exchange, and other Minnesota multitype library systems.

Consortium pricing offers affordable, state-of-the-art options for even the smallest of school districts. All schools in a district must join at the same time, which offers great cost and staff efficiencies. And, this discounted buy is contingent upon having Region 1 host the software. If you are already using Destiny, but on your own server, you can still move into this Consortium.  There is a reasonable one-time fee for transferring your data into this hosted solution.

The following three modules and enriched-content subscriptions are discounted through membership in the North Star Library Consortium.

  1. Destiny Library Manager module…your library catalog and management system  can be accessed from home, the classroom, and the media center, virtually anywhere, anytime.
    • Enriched Content Subscriptions  for Library Manager (optional, pick and choose)
      • TitlePeek (see those book covers)
      • Web Path Express (selected safe, content rich sites)
      • Reading Program  (search by reading level, point value, or subject)
      • Standards (helps teachers find standard-aligned resources)
      • One Search (search all library resources in one efficient search)
  2. Destiny Textbook Manager module…track physical textbooks and save your district money.
  3. Destiny Asset Manager module… track digital devices so they are available when you need them.
