Libraries, archives, and other organizations do many wonderful things. Of course, we all know that.
But the thing we are most known for will usually be our collections.
We figure out what our community members need and want. We go get that stuff. We give it to the people who come visit us (in person or online). And everyone is happy!
Okay, it’s kind of like that. That’s the theory.
The reality is a little more complex. And that is the part we will cover in this class.
Over the next four weeks, we will do an overview of the collection development process, from vendors to weeding. We will look at ideas for marketing your collection, collecting it to your community members. We will discuss some Reader’s Advisory skills to build those connections. And, everyone will create a collection development policy, individualized for your organization.
For some bonus content, subscribe to our Reader’s Advisory/Book Group podcast: Books and Beverages. We cover a different genre each week, and encourage listeners to grab a beverage and join us as we chat about books.
