Do you like food? Library people? Then join us!

Philippine Food
We are getting excited about our second regular social gathering for CMLE library people, and other friends!

Wednesday, March 15
5:30 pm
Old Chicago
4040 2nd St S, St Cloud, MN 56301

This was a common request from our members, to have time away from work, where we can meet people we only see online, to talk with other people who are doing what we do, and to help build bonds across the CMLE system. Whether you are alone in your library, or have lots of other people around, you are part of the CMLE system team!

We had fun last time, and are looking forward to meeting more people – and enjoying some pizza! 🙂 (I had a calzone last time, and it was great!)

We would love for you to attend! This is going to be casual, everyone paying their own way, and no agenda. The only purpose is to have a regular opportunity for all of us to get together, maybe meet some new people (or people you only know online), and to talk about library stuff. Of course, if photos of kids, pets, or vacations come out to be shared too – absolutely no one will mind!

We will be happy to see you, no matter what. If you can RSVP below, so we have an idea of how many to expect, that will make our planning easier!

Looking forward to hanging out with you!

Protect Your Library the Medieval Way, With Horrifying Book Curses

Medieval scribes protected their work by threatening death, or worse.

CMLE Geocaching Travel Bugs are on the move!

One of our travel bugs has had an adventure, and was left in a geocache in the Myrtle Beach State Park!

Wanting to escape the Minnesota winters, it landed in this beautiful park. The cache gets a lot of traffic, as it is located in a very busy visitors center on the beach. There is a long pier into the ocean, filled with people fishing. They have a boardwalk to escort people through the dunes area, and several hiking trails through the Carolina pine woods. It is a lovely area!

The Library Travel Bug has already been picked up from this location, and is hopefully headed to some other great location!! We will keep you updated on its progress, as well as the progress of our other Travel Bugs!

Traveling? Stay at a book-friendly hotel!

You love books. I love books. Heck – we have a whole profession designed to give people books!

So there is no need to give up your books when you travel – stay at a book-friendly hotel!

  • Looking at a local vacation experience? Head to Minneapolis to find the Commons Hotel! How does a Book Butler in your hotel room sound? if it sounds fun to you, you might also like their other “geek chic” offerings: “This industrial schoolhouse chic property embodies a sense of inner geek in a chic setting, embracing diversity through the common desire to discover, with an uncommon experience. Explorers satisfy the whims of their inner geek with a Book Butler, in-room art galleries, alchemist mixology lessons and Sudoku sleep-ins.”

Your friendly librarian – here to save the day!

We all know that library people are awesome – working to serve our communities and to help our patrons! But this story, about a school librarian who went above and beyond to help a patron to clear her name and to escape grounding by her mom, is an inspiration to us all!

Have you had a good patron experience lately? Tell us about it in the comments, or send it to us at CMLE Headquarters – we love to hear about our members and their successes!!

From Huffington Post:

“On Tuesday, a New York-based school librarian named Jennifer Iacopelli put on her detective cap after a crying student approached her for help.

According to a series of increasingly Sherlock-esque tweets, she is apparently a master of both the Dewey Decimal System and sleuthing.

…The student insisted that the inappropriate additions to her paper, which she’d been working on using Google Docs, were not her own. Intrigued by the alleged hacking, Iacopelli went on the hunt to figure out how the paper ended up in this condition.”
