Join us here each week. We will provide activities for all ages, with online activities and some things to do on your own. It’s winter, we’re having a pandemic, and there should be a lot of staying at home. But that doesn’t mean being bored! Dive in here, and let’s do some fun things!
Virtual Travel
Grab your passport and let’s go to the United Kingdom! We are stopping off at Buckingham Palace. Grab a cup of tea, and let’s do some exploring.
“An iconic building and official residence of The Queen, Buckingham Palace has been the focus of many moments of national celebration, from Jubilees and weddings to VE Day and the annual Trooping the Colour which marks The Queen’s official birthday. It is also a busy working building welcoming tens of thousands of people through its gates each year for Investitures, Garden Parties, Audiences and other events.
Explore this magnificent building via our virtual tours. The first tour will take you to the Grand Staircase. Click on the small images below to access further tours of the White Drawing Room, the Throne Room and the Blue Drawing Room.”
Let’s Move
Staying inside a lot means most of us are doing less moving around. More exercise helps us to keep our anxiety levels down and to release chemicals to keep us happy. So, let’s have some fun this week!

STEM Project
Whip up some frothy, foamy toothpaste. “Mixing up a batch of this sparkly reindeer toothpaste is sure to get any little scientist excited about chemistry. This is a pepperminty holiday twist on the popular Elephant Toothpaste demonstration. With just a few ingredients, the results are amazing!”
Academic Fun
Text Structure
“How do authors organize the texts that they write? This lesson teaches five common text structures used in informational and nonfiction text: description, sequence, cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem and solution. You’ll learn signal words that give clues about which organizational pattern is being used, and how to analyze a text to figure out its structure.”
Book Challenge
It’s not exactly a secret: we are big fans of books and of reading! Check out this week’s book challenge for some ideas for more books to read and to share.
“If You’ve Read 10% of These Books You’re Very Well Read: Ten percent? That’s only fifty books! You’ve read at least fifty of these books right? I’m sure you have.”
Arts and Crafts
Painted Rocks: “You will need smooth (and preferably flat) rocks to get started. Clean them really well and maybe even rub them down good with rubbing alcohol to help the paint stick. Use an acrylic craft paint for your base coat, and after it dries, a fine permanent marker to make your outline. Fill in your design with more paint, or try these Molotow Markers for fine detail work. It might be best with the kids (depending on the age) to help them with their outline, and then they can have fun filling in the lines.”
Calm and Background
All of this staying home, working at home, studying at home – it can be hard. It may be helpful to have a calming influence to watch while you are working. Click on this video, sit back, close your eyes, and just spends a few minutes letting your mind drift and relax.
Pafuli – We are where the sounds of the fireplace are with you in the candlelight, in the blizzard..
