What are We Doing This Week? Feb. 7

What are we doing today? winter logo

Join us here each week. We will provide activities for all ages, with online activities and some things to do on your own. It’s winter, we’re having a pandemic, and there should be a lot of staying at home. But that doesn’t mean being bored! Dive in here, and let’s do some fun things!

Virtual Travel

Today we are going to explore some neat things to see in one of the best museums in the world: The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History!

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History virtual tours allow visitors to take self-guided, room-by-room tours of select exhibits and areas within the museum from their desktop or mobile device. Visitors can also access select collections and research areas at our satellite support and research stations as well as past exhibits no longer on display.”

Let’s Move

Staying inside a lot means most of us are doing less moving around. More exercise helps us to keep our anxiety levels down and to release chemicals to keep us happy. So, let’s have some fun this week!

STEM Project

Pour a rainbow into a jar. “We love fun kids’ science and this easy rainbow jar activity is one of our all-time FAVORITES! With just a few common household ingredients like dish soap and honey, little scientists can actually pour a rainbow in a jar. There’s no need for any magic – just 100% kid-friendly science.”

Academic Fun

Goats That Climb “Find out how and why goats climb, and then choose one or more of the math questions to try. Check out the extra resources, too.”

Book Challenge

It’s not exactly a secret: we are big fans of books and of reading! Check out this week’s book challenge for some ideas for more books to read and to share.

Joanne’s Bookshelf – Books Mentioned in 2020: As usual with my book blog, any books that get mentioned in my blogs throughout the course of a particular year get listed on List Challenges! Let’s see by the end of 2020 what I’ve mentioned on my blogs – usually a very varied and random selection of books, lol! Some I will have read, some I’ve read years ago, or half-read, and others will be new. I will publish at the end of the year and you can see what I’ve waffled on about and whether you’ve read any of them!”

Arts and Crafts

Lego Candy Dispenser: “I think I might be more obsessed with Legos than my kids! It’s the one thing from my childhood that I refuse to let go of. They’ve just gotten so elaborate and even more amazing! If you’ve already got a nice collection of Legos going, you might just have everything you need to make this sweet little candy dispenser. Go get the step-by-step instructions over at Frugal Fun For Boys & Girls.”

Calm and Background

All of this staying home, working at home, studying at home – it can be hard. It may be helpful to have a calming influence to watch while you are working. Click on this video, sit back, close your eyes, and just spends a few minutes letting your mind drift and relax.
