EBooks For Your Patrons, Free from Ebooks Minnesota!

We know that our members, like library people everywhere, are scrambling around to provide more access to ebooks for their patrons. And it’s hard! They are expensive. They can be tough to share across formats.

Fortunately, our libraries have access – FREE access! – to Ebooks Minnesota!There are a lot of great books available there; and your students can all check them out – no waiting.

AND!

The books are even better now; they have added more diverse books for us to share and celebrate with our community members. Check out this information:

“Minitex is happy to announce that Ebooks Minnesota just gained 350+ titles around equity, diversity, and inclusion.  Last fall, students in St. Catherine University’s Master of Library and Information Science Program, Library Materials for Children class, performed a diversity audit of Ebooks Minnesota.   As a result of this audit, the Ebooks Minnesota Collection Task Force recently selected diverse titles for inclusion into the collection from publishers including ABDO, Capstone, Rosarium, Dreamspinner, and Flux.

These additions include books from the ABDO series, This is My Family, including My Single ParentMy Two Homes, and from the My Family series, My Special Needs Family, and My First-Generation Family.  Other series added include Being LGBTQ in America, Women in STEM, Women in Science, Race in America, Being Female in America, Native American Oral Histories, Understanding World Religions and Beliefs, Race and Sports, Class in America, multiple sets in the Freedom’s Promise series, and many more titles surrounding EDI.  A few titles in the series listed above include Fighting Stereotypes in Sports, Birth of Hip Hop, LGBTQ Social Movements in America, Traditional Stories of the Plains Nations, and Black Lives Matter.  

From Capstone, additions include several books in the Yasmin series, about a 2nd-grade girl living with her multi-generational Pakistani American family and Sadiq, a young boy living with his multi-generational family from Somalia.  A few other new titles from Capstone are All Kinds of FamiliesShe/He/They/Them, and Sarah Journeys West.

Just a handful of titles from Dreamspinner, Rosarium, and Flux/North Star press were added.  These titles, like Harmonious Hearts 2019 – Stories from the Young Author Challenge have been incorporated into the Young Adult module.  “
