Updates From State Library Services September Reimagining School Readiness Workshops In case you missed it earlier this summer, you have another chance to experience the Reimagining School Readiness workshop. The Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit is a suite of research-backed resources created for library staff to help families prepare children ages 0 to 8 for success in school and in life. Join us for these virtual workshops to learn about the research, practical implications, and resources offered in the toolkit. The toolkit is available in its entirety for free online. Workshop participants will: understand key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research reflect on the implications of those findings for their daily work gain practical, ready-to-implement ideas for activities, as well as resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers Register here for one of these dates: September 15, 2021, 1 – 5 p.m. September 22, 2021, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. You will benefit from this workshop if you work with children ages 0 to 8 and their families and would like to learn more about how to offer research-backed programming in your library. Start a Girls Who Code Club State Library Services is partnering with Girls Who Code (GWC) to provide free computer science resources to our community! We encourage you to sign up to start a free Girls Who Code Club for students in grades 3-5 or 6-12. Learn more about the Clubs program or join a webinar. When you start a GWC Club, you’ll get access to everything you need – including training, comprehensive resources, and 120+ hours of easy-to-use and flexible coding curriculum. Clubs feature coding tutorials for all skill levels, inspiring women in tech, community-building activities to increase confidence, and project-based learning related to activism. All genders are welcome in this girls-supportive environment. Updates from Partners Voter Registration? Voila! September 28 is National Voter Registration Day, when volunteers and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” in a single day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts. It’s quick and easy to register your library as a National Voter Registration Day local partner. Register by September 4 to receive free promotional materials like posters and stickers to promote voter registration services in your community or at your library. One Book | One Minnesota: Chapter Five The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, as the Minnesota Center for the Book, announces the fifth chapter of One Book | One Minnesota, a statewide book club that invites Minnesotans of all ages to read a common title and come together virtually to enjoy, reflect, and discuss. The fifth title for the program is Murder on the Red River by Minnesota author Marcie Rendon. Readers can access the ebook and audiobook for free on Ebooks Minnesota for eight weeks, starting August 2, and access to author videos, reading guides, and virtual book club discussion guides at the One Book | One Minnesota website.
