One big problem everyone in education faces is the cost of textbooks! And libraries that want to buy books to help support student learning are in a constant dilemma: buying textbooks, buying books to support specific courses, or buying books for the general collection. It’s tough!
One tool you can be using to help support learning is Open Education Resources (OER). And one OER resource is from SABIER.
“All of SABIER’s current projects are free, openly licensed courses that are designed for both distance learning and Face 2 Face learning. The content can be a replacement curriculum or be used as a digital addition or option for existing curriculum.
Any or all of the unit course files can be uploaded into your school’s LMS. Teachers can also select just those lessons or activities they choose to use.
The GeoGebra Illustrative Mathematics courses can be downloaded here.
If you would like to try out one of the other courses in an LMS, request access at support@sabier.org “
Minitex would like to know if you have tried out the Illustrative Mathematics course! If you have email to us: admin@cmle.org and we can pass that on.

Designed for middle school math using Geogebra’s digital Illustrative Mathematics apps for distance learning, these new LMS courses will work great in face 2 face classes, too.
Teachers can fully engage students in middle school math distance learning or in person classes. Student progress can be monitored in real time without the hassle of screen sharing in addition to increasing communication and collaboration between students.
These free, openly licensed LMS courses extend the capabilities of Geogebra’s interactive applets designed for video conferencing software. (This link has a great short video describing the apps.) At their own pace and time, students will be able to continue their Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams online synchronous lessons to collaborate and work in groups.
The increased communication between teachers and students will build community by enabling students to communicate with their teacher and each other using video, chat, audio, or photos. The courses expand assessment options synced to student information systems. Parents appreciate the links to the extensive Illustrative Mathematics material provided for parents. The LMS courses give teachers quick access to extensive narratives that describe the mathematical work that will unfold in each lesson in every unit.”
