Welcome back to the show. We are so glad you are here, joining us for the book group discussion!
Each week we talk about books and about different genres, and provide useful information for people who want to talk about books. Every week we pick a new genre to chat about. We want to help you find new books for yourself, and to be ready to share them with others.
This week we are talking about running! Last week we talked about books about pandemics and other scary things. This week we are going to look at another topic that focuses on health. If you want to do some running of your own – great! And if reading about running can help you work on some healthy behaviors, that’s great too!
Our Guest Host is Kate Wallace, from Marketing and Communications at the St Cloud Technical and Community College. She is also an avid runner, and has visited every state park in Minnesota!
Beverages:
Each week we like to connect the theme of our books with our beverages, and we each came prepared with our own drink to enjoy while we talk about our books. You are an important part of this book group, so if you don’t have a beverage go ahead and get one now. Each of our beverages will have a recipe or a link on our episode page, so you can try them yourself!
When you run, and when you are done, you need to think about rehydrating. This week our beverages will help us to be well hydrated, as well as giving us the energy and endurance to make it through this discussion.

Genre Discussion:
Although it seems like there are runners everywhere, and of course humans have always run. As a hobby running became popular in the 1970s. “Jim Fixx was an American who wrote the 1977 best-selling book The Complete Book of Running. He is credited with helping start America’s fitness revolution by popularizing the sport of running and demonstrating the health benefits of regular jogging.”
You can find all kinds of books about running: technique, equipment, routes, races, biographies and more. Whether you are a serious ultra-runner, a weekend runner, or just want to explore doing some running from the safety of your couch – you can find some books on running to enjoy.
