Kick off your summer at Library Bootcamp!

Join us!

Get your summer off to an AWESOME start and join us at CMLE Summer Library Bootcamp!

Do you work in a library?
Do you want to learn some new skills and strategies that will help you better serve your community of users?

Great! That’s all you need to be able to attend our Bootcamp Series!

Our goal as a library multitype system is to provide training and connection opportunities for our members. We’ll be covering several different library skills and sharing strategies and experiences to help you in your own library practice.

Classes will run from 11:00 to 1:00, and light lunch will be provided. Each class will be $10.

Certificates will be issued for two hours of clock hours or CE credit after each class.

Here are the classes being offered this summer. Sign up by following the links to Eventbrite:

CMLE members can apply for a scholarship to take the entire series of all five classes. Do not register through the links below; email us at admin@cmle.org, give your name, your library, and your job there, and confirm you will attend all five classes. We will process your scholarship application with that information and get back to you.

All classes will be held at CMLE Headquarters:
570 1st Street SE
St. Cloud, MN 54304

Email admin@cmle.org with any questions! Let’s kickstart our summer!!

Roller Derby SM-4

We’ve been talking about it for a while, and it’s finally here!

Our next library people member event is this Saturday!!!! We’re going to roller derby together!! Doors at the Convention Center will open at 5pm on Saturday May 18.

If you have not already RSVP-d to us, do it by Wednesday. We need to get tickets for everyone, and that will be the final deadline.

Need to get caught up on our roller derby plans? It’s all here!

We will happily buy tickets for ANY library person out there!!! This is an open event, so whether or not you are a CMLE member, we will be happy to see you.

If you have always wanted to check out roller derby – this is your chance! We’ll grab a hotdog, settle in our seats, and cheer on our hometown SCAR Dolls team!!!

Join us! We’d love to see you there!!

Report from Springtime Tea with CMLE!

We were so impressed that CMLE member (and frequent podcast Guest Host!) Ariel matched beautifully with the Mad Hatter’s spring color scheme!

Our members are awesome! CMLE is made up of school, public, academic, and special libraries, and we really appreciate all our members who are doing such impressive work in their libraries.

It can be hard to make connections outside of your library and we always want our members to know you are part of a larger profession! That’s why we hold member events. Plus, we like to have tea!

Take a look at the fun we had, and stay tuned to our website for several more opportunities to connect with other library people! Some upcoming events include roller derby and camping (with a day trip option). Is there an activity you think would make a fun member event? Email us at admin@cmle.org or leave a comment, let us know!

The ginger carrot soup was a hit!

Thank you again for all the members that were able to join us! If you missed this event, we hope to see you next time!

Potential Member Event: Let’s Roller Derby!

Okay, to be clear: we are not roller skating at this event. If you are, and are in uniform for the team, we will applaud your achievements!

This is such a fun event – and it might be fun for this to be yet another one of the CMLE member events! Let us know if this is a thing you would like to do; CMLE will pick up the ticket costs for members!

WHAT would we be doing? Attending the SCAR Dolls roller derby home event, against FORX Roller Derby team.

WHEN would we do this? May 18th 2019 “Most home games have a start time of 6pm with doors opening at 5pm, but please visit our facebook page to find more detailed information as it can vary per game.”

WHERE is this excitement? The River’s Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud Minnesota.

Wait, What? Who are these people?? “The S.C.A.R. Dolls are the one, the only, the original women’s flat track roller derby league in Central Minnesota. We formed in 2011 to create an opportunity for the women in the Saint Cloud area to participate in the challenging, exciting, and empowering revival of modern roller derby.

Roller derby is currently one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with over 1450 amateur leagues currently in existence and new leagues are forming all the time. This is not the exhibitionist, pro-wrestling style derby of the 1970’s, but a fast-paced, hard-hitting sport that the women of the S.C.A.R. Dolls are proud to be introducing to this wonderful community. We are working hard to make our league competitive in order to represent Saint Cloud both home and away.

Besides being talented and tenacious athletes, the S.C.A.R. Dolls are dedicated to giving back to the community through charity partnerships and fundraisers.”

Here’s a quick video of the team talking about their skating work:

WHAT DO YOU DO NOW?? This is not a formal request for your commitment – we are just looking around to see if this is a thing our members might want to try! So if you think you might want to come to this event – comment below, email us at admin @ cmle.org, or tweet to us at @CMLELibs.

We’ll talk about libraries at some point during the evening, I promise! We wouldn’t want you to feel left out of any library-related fun. We can enjoy hotdogs, chips, cheering for the home team, watching kids run around and lose their minds with the excitement – it’s just some noisy fun for all!

If we do this as a member event, we will buy tickets for all members who attend. But there is no reserved seating, and it is definitely a family-friendly event – so also feel free to bring kids, friends, neighbors, or anyone else who might want to have some fun watching some cool skaters with some definitely awesome library people!

CMLE Social Event!! Let’s chat!

TeacupsMadTeaParty wb

You know we miss our members when we don’t see you. We also want to be sure we are building a real library community across our system – so we want to have opportunities for everyone to get to know each other.

We are hosting another social event for members to attend, so we can have fun and chat about library stuff. (We can chat about all kinds of other fun stuff, of course!) This time we will be meeting for tea! Yes, tea is a traditional icon of the library profession (tea, cats, cardigans – all the best stuff); and we build on that here with a high tea.

We will meet at the Mad Hatter Restaurant, in Anoka: Sunday, May 6 at 10:30. For this event, we are planning on the Queen of Hearts tea service. As this is going to be a little pricey, we are also offering “scholarships” to people who RSVP to us by Friday, April 27. We will cover the cost of your Queen of Hearts tea service if you respond below. (We need to make reservations!)

We want to meet in different places, so we can try out new things, and we can be closer to different members at different times. This is a bit of a drive, but we have set this up so you have time to go down to the Cities, if you want, after we are done. Plan on being here about an hour and a half, possibly longer if you wish.

We look forward to seeing everyone, to talking about libraries, to hearing about summer plans, and all the great things that can happen when a bunch of CMLE members get together!

Are you joining us Sunday May 6 at 10:30? (Please be reasonably sure you can go to say yes!)

This is NOT our event: but if the idea of a fun British tea sounds great to you – they are also hosting a special event for the big Royal Wedding, and you can attend that! (Tell us all about it if you go!!)

Friday, May 18th 6:00pm – 8:30pm $35 per guest

Join us for a Royal cocktail party to celebrate Prince Harry & Meghan’s wedding! We will have a lavish buffet of appetizers and a cash bar (beer, wine & bubbly) We will of course be serving our popular Royal Wedding Tea as well. Come dressed in your most fabulous & dapper fashions!

This is a social interactive party. We will seat family style, but encourage everyone to mingle around the estate and chat with other guests.”
