CALL FOR PAPERS: 2017 LIBRARY RESEARCH ROUND TABLE FORUMS
ALA Annual Conference, Chicago, June 22-27
The Library Research Round Table (LRRT) is accepting paper submissions for two Research Forums at the 2017 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago. The LRRT Research Forums will feature 20-minute presentations of library and information science (LIS) research followed by discussion. Proposals are due midnight Eastern on Monday, May 1, 2017. (See submission information below.) Notification of acceptance will be made on Friday, May 5, 2017.

ALA, library community, advocates, call on nation’s leaders to safeguard IMLS funding
CHICAGO – Libraries of all types are part of a delicate ecosystem that supports the transformation of communities and lives through education and lifelong learning. From the cradle to the grave, libraries provide invaluable resources that serve as a lifeline for billions of users for access to technology, early and digital literacy instruction, job-seeking resources, social services and small business tools.
During National Library Week April 9 – 15, The American Library Association (ALA) will launch Take Action for Libraries Day, a national library advocacy effort observed for the first time on the Thursday of National Library Week, April 13.
In response to President’s Trump proposed budget cuts, this year’s Take Action for Libraries Day will highlight the library community’s efforts to safeguard funding for the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which serves as a critical funding resource for every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories to support libraries and museums. IMLS funding helps support literacy programs for youth, small business service centers, services for veterans and technological resources and services like 3-D printers.

In upcoming years, CMLE will be offering this kind of intensive training program for members (and others); but if you can take advantage of this – please do! Remember we have some scholarship money to offset the cost!

Applications for the 2017 “Leading to the Future” ALA Leadership Institute (August 7-10, Q Center, St. Charles, Illinois) will be accepted through April 13, 2017. The institute is designed to help future library leaders develop and practice their leadership skills in areas critical to the future of the libraries they lead.
Building on the success of the past ALA Leadership Institutes, the four-day immersive leadership development program for up to 40 mid-career librarians will be led again by ALA past-president Maureen Sullivan and library and leadership consultant Kathryn Deiss.
The application form as well as details and guidelines are available on the Transforming Libraries website. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by their employer. The ALCTS CaMMS Cataloging Norms Interest Group (CNIG) seeks speakers to present at the ALA Annual Conference to be held in Chicago on Saturday, June 24, 2017, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
The Cataloging Norms Interest Group offers a forum for the exploration, communication, and exchange of ideas and bestpractices on the dynamics of cataloging/metadata norms and workflows in the hybrid environment.
Presentation topics should be of current interest to catalogers, metadata practitioners, and cataloging and metadata managers, and be approximately 15 minutes in length. Additional time will be allowed for questions and discussion.
