Are you coming to tea with CMLE?

Getting together with our members in person is always something we value at CMLE. Since our members work in school media centers, history centers, archives, public, and academic libraries, we really appreciate learning about the diversity of tasks and challenges you handle every day! Plus, we love when our members get to meet each other and form connections across different types of libraries.

So, with that in mind, we are excitedly looking forward to our CMLE Tea event on September 30th! This will take place at the Mad Hatter Restaurant, in Anoka at 10:30am. (Have you been there before? We have not and are really excited, it looks like a delightful place!)

To make this event more accessible to our members we are also offering “scholarships” to CMLE members who RSVP to us by Monday, Sept 24. We will cover the cost of your Queen of Hearts tea service if you respond below. (We need to make reservations!)

Time for Tea!

We are already excited for this event, and it’s still some time in the future! (Plenty of time to get it onto your calendar!) Like cardigans and cats, tea fits the traditional idea of “librarian,” so we thought, great! Let’s have a tea party social event with our members!

We will meet at the Mad Hatter Restaurant, in Anoka:
Sunday, September 30 at 10:30.

As with all of our social events, we want to bring together members of the library community! It can be hard to leave your library or school or archive but interacting with others in the profession can be very beneficial, not to mention fun!

For this event, we are planning on the Queen of Hearts tea service. As this is going to be a little pricey, we are also offering “scholarships” to CMLE members who RSVP to us by Monday, Sept 24. We will cover the cost of your Queen of Hearts tea service if you respond below. (We need to make reservations!)

We want to meet in different places, so we can try out new things, and we can be closer to different members at different times. This is a bit of a drive, but we have set this up so you have time to go down to the Cities, if you want, after we are done. Plan on being here about an hour and a half, possibly longer if you wish.

We look forward to seeing everyone, to talking about libraries, to hearing about summer plans, and all the great things that can happen when a bunch of CMLE members get together!

If you know you can come with us (be pretty sure!), fill out the form below. We would love to see you, and hear about your library!!

Next Wednesday: Come to our Women’s History Month Read-In!

We had a great time last month with our African American Read-In event and thought we’d do it again this month with a Women’s History Month Read-In! Join us to celebrate women authors, books with strong female characters, and books about/by inspiring women!

Come by our Headquarters (570 1st Street SE, St. Cloud, MN 56304) WEDNESDAY March 28 from 11 to 1. Bring a lunch. Enjoy a snack we provide. Bring a book to share, and enjoy all the fun books we will provide to browse!

It’s not required, but Office Dog Lady Grey is a very good listener, so if you are feeling extra excited and want to share your book with an appreciative audience, she will be all ears!

Members, library friends, well-wishers – we would like to share books with all of you!!

Celebrate Women’s History Month in the best way possible: with lots of good books!

Interested in African American literature? Come to the African American Read-In at CMLE on Feb. 20th!

At CMLE, we love books and we love to celebrate. When the two go together, it’s fantastic. That’s why we’re definitely excited to take part in the African American Read-In!

On Tuesday, February 20th, from 11am – 1pm (but we’ll be here all day with books and refreshments so feel free to drop in as your schedule permits) at our HQ location, we will be hosting an African American Read-In event!

What is the African American Read-In? Great question!

During the month of February, schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month by hosting an African American Read-In.”

We were so inspired by this page of resources from the ReadWriteThink website that we decided to host our own event. The NCTE website gives an overview of what to expect at a Read-In event:

“The format of these events varies widely, but all events have a few things in common:

  • Texts written by African American authors are shared.
  • Participants either listen to or provide the readings.
  • A count is taken of who attends, and that count is documented in the “report card” as a measure of the global reach of this program each year.”

Our event will have library books by African American authors available to browse and read, as well as several booklists with recommended reading titles available for you to take or review. Light refreshments will be provided, and Office Dog Lady Grey will provide her soothing presence.

Join us to discuss and share books written by African Americans! If you would like to come prepared with your own books to share, this page has six booklists to get you started.
