This year, we highlighted apps recommended by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).  AASL considers these to be some of the Best Apps for Teaching & Learning.  As a recap, we’ve resorted them into their five categories and will feature one list per week for the next five weeks.

MN Book Awards Winners Announced!

MN BAThe 27th Annual Minnesota Book Awards were presented over the weekend, at the gala in St. Paul attended by over 800 people!  Euan Kerr of Minnesota Public Radio emceed the event, where 10 awards were presented.  In addition to the 8 standard awards, the Kay Sexton Book Award was presented to Mary Francois Rockcastle, and the Book Artist Award was presented to Harriet Bart, along with Philip Gallo and Jill Jevne.  The other awards went to:

  • Sean Hill – Award for Poetry – Dangerous Goods
  • Marlon James – Award for Novel & Short Story – A Brief History of Seven Killings
  • Julie Klassen – Award for Genre Fiction – The Secret of Pembrooke Park
  • Nancy Koester – Award for General Nonfiction – Harriet Beecher Stowe: A Spiritual Life
  • Margi Preus – Award for Young People’s Literature – West of the Moon
  • Kaethe Schwehn – Award for Memoir & Creative Nonfiction – Tailings: A Memoir
  • Joyce Sidman & Rick Allen – Award for Children’s Literature – Winter Bees and Other Poems of the Cold
  • Lori Sturdevant – Minnesota – Her Honor: Rosalie Wahl and the Minnesota Women’s Movement

YALSA’s 30 Days of Teen Programming

homepageiconYALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) is in the middle of its 30 Days of Teen Programming!  This celebration was designed to kick off the new Teen Programming Guidelines that YALSA hopes “will be a valuable tool for you…both as how-to guide and as an advocacy tool.”

Throughout the month on YALSAblog, you will see posts that relate to these ten guidelines.  One post follows two teen services librarians as they begin to partner with their local drop-in center for homeless youth.
