“Librarians” Series on TNT – Teaser Trailer

TNT has a new series premiering Dec. 7th about librarians. We had previously posted about the project getting picked up by the network.

Now they’ve released a teaser trailer and more information about the show!

“The new TNT series centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around and solving impossible mysteries, fighting supernatural threats and recovering powerful artifacts from around the world.”

Sounds like a typical day at the library right?

How exciting, a new series where librarians are dedicated protectors of library artifacts! According to the Hollywood Reporter, “…TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the scripted drama The Librarians and tapped Rebecca Romijn to star as a skilled counter-terrorism agent. Noah Wyle, who starred in the TNT movie trilogy, will reprise his role as Flynn Carsen. The new series, which will debut in late 2014, will center on four people who are enlisted to assist Flynn as “Librarians,” members of an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library.”

I see viewing party possibilities all over this one, don’t you?

New TV Technology: 4K or UHD

Hopefully I have not already lost you by titling a post with what appears to be code! The Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2014) just finished up in Las Vegas, and there is buzz on the street about 4K or Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV, which is four times the resolution of our current high def experience. Why should we in the library world care? Because in two to three years our end users may expect this type of viewing experience, which takes much more bandwidth! If you are thinking it will not happen soon, Netflix has already shared that it will be producing and  streaming shows in 4K soon, and the next season of House of Cards has already been produced in 4K. But, don’t take it from me, Jason Griffey, head of library information technology at University of Tennessee, Chattanooga recently gave a great accounting of his experience at CES at http://tinyurl.com/l67acxk

An Overhaul of YouTube?

Sources “in the know” report that Google is planning a major overhaul of YouTube. Apparently to compete with companies like Hulu and Netflix, as well as cable and network television, Google hopes that an offering of “channels” and live streaming of original “professionally produced programming” will entice viewers to stay on the site for longer periods of time. They hope that people will “watch YouTube” just like they “watch TV”. These changes are expected to occur over an extended period of time, with the first steps starting before the end of the year.
