From now until the end of the school year, each week we will be including a post called A Mindful Moment. Mindfulness is an emerging topic in libraries as it relates to our own personal wellness, but also as it affects good customer service. If you are at all like me, if you get a list of 12 things to consider at one time, it is just too overwhelming. Therefore, in these weekly posts, we will be providing small bits of information to assist you in moving toward a more mindful life. All credit for the content goes to Leo Babauta at Fast Company, who believes “a mindful life is worth the effort.” I really, really love the introduction Leo gave to his 12 piece tool set and his explanation of a mindful life. This week, we feature his second tool …..
Tool 2: Be Awake.
“Meditation is practice for being awake, which is not being in the dream state (mind wandering into a train of thought, getting lost in the online world, thinking about past offenses, stressing about the future, etc.) but being awake to the present, to what is. Being awake is something you can do throughout the day, all the time, if you remember. Remembering is the trick.”
What is this business about a mindful life? Read Leo’s introduction, it will take like one minute and is well worth your time to frame this subject!

Excerpts from American Libraries Direct, a publication of the American Library Association
Have you been thinking that 3D printing is too “far out” to consider? Think again…..in order to offer kid friendly 3D printing, Hasbro will soon offer the DohVinci! It uses a kind of Play-Doh that comes in fine-tipped cartridges that hardens overnight! There is some disagreement about whether this is truly a printer or simply a new Hasbro extruder tool (which is not a new concept). The thing that is different is the new formula for the doh. Sounds like fun to me no matter what you call it, and a good possibility for a makerspace or fab lab. Or on my kitchen table with the grandkids!
