New Open Toolkit for Teaching File and Data Management

We are very pleased to share this announcement on the latest release from the ETD+ project.

The ETD+ Toolkit (https://educopia.org/publications/etdplustoolkit) is an approach to improving student and faculty research output management. Focusing on the Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) as a mile-marker in a student’s research trajectory, it provides in-time advice to students and faculty about avoiding common digital loss scenarios for the ETD and all of its affiliated files.

The ETD+ Toolkit provides free introductory training resources on crucial data curation and digital longevity techniques. It has been designed as a training series to help students and faculty identify and offset risks and threats to their digital research footprints. Travel to Cuba with the LAII and LACC for a “A Revolutionary Perspective on Education”

“The LAII and LACC are pleased to announce a special international program designed specifically for educators: “Cuba: A Revolutionary Perspective on Education.”  We are offering a special rate to educators, which makes this one of the least expensive programs to Cuba offered anywhere in the country. Moreover, as Cuba becomes a more accessible tourist destination, we expect that in-country expenses will only continue to increase – which means that this may be one of the least expensive programs for years to come!
 
We are subsidizing the costs of this program because we are committed to fostering international awareness among educators and providing them with the resources they need to bring international awareness into their classrooms.

Overview 
Join Florida International University and The University of New Mexico for a 9-day trip to Cuba in which we’ll focus on educational practice and philosophy on the island. We’ll visit museums with stunning collections, meet with grassroots organizations working on literacy, environmental science, and the humanities, interact with k-12 teachers and administrators, tour university campuses and meet with professors, and dialogue with community members about the role of society and culture in education.

The ACRL Distance Learning Section Discussion Group invites you to join us for the next DLS Round Table Discussion!

A large portion of distance librarianship depends on teaching, supporting, and collaborating with students asynchronously. Motivation, engagement, and participation in asynchronous courses was the focus of our first round table discussion. Now we would like to expand upon our strategies for assessing these interactions – both assessing student learning outcomes as well as keeping track of our interactions.

We encourage new and experienced librarians to take part in this discussion. These discussions are about learning and sharing. You will be a valuable addition whether you are just getting started or you have all the answers.

Learning Commons, Knowledge Hubs, Information Commons, and myriad of other names have been associated with the evolving functionality and mission of academic libraries over the past 30 years. This evolution has been both the result of libraries administering a broader range of services, new programs, departments, and initiatives moving into the library’s physical space.

In an effort to learn more about shared spaces within academic libraries, Sasaki invites you to participate in this 31 question survey.

We seek to better understand what additions have come into the library and what impact they are having on the library’s spatial needs and staff dynamics. Building upon Sasaki’s Academic Librarian Spaces 2015 survey, we hope to further the conversation about the changing spaces within academic libraries. Focusing on “New Neighbors,” an area discussed in the report (pages 22-27).

The survey will close on Friday, April 14th, 2017, and the results will be shared with this list early this summer.
