Women’s History Month poetry, short stories, and music on Spotify

Spotify is great for listening to music and making playlists, and they’ve really done a great job to help celebrate Women’s History Month!

Thanks to this article from Book Riot, I discovered that Spotify has compiled a few really neat playlists: Poetry (read by the authors), Women’s Lit (classic short stories), Women of Latin Music, a playlist of women composers, plus a ton more! Get more detail from the article here, or just find the “Women’s History Month” category on Spotify. As someone that probably wouldn’t pickup a book of poetry, or listen to women K-Pop stars, these playlists make it easy to try new genres and recognize the talented women that created them!

You do need to setup a Spotify account to access the playlists, but it’s free and portable (if you download the app).

Happy listening!

National Library Week is coming soon!

Even though every day is a great day to celebrate libraries, there is a special week each year designated to highlight their importance and awesomeness!

This year, that week is from April 9 – 15 and “is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support.”

This year’s theme for the week is “Libraries Transform.” ALA has a Press Kit to help you prepare for activities and events you may want to plan to take place during this exciting week! Check out their library week fact sheet or watch this video from the 2016 National Library Week Video Challenge

For some great suggestions on how to celebrate National Library Week, check out this post from I Love Libraries.

We’d love to hear about your plans for National Library Week! Share with us in the comments!

Libraries really cover everything: Wine Libraries exist!

Glass of White Wine shot with a bottle of white wine - Evan Swigart
At CMLE Headquarters we are fans of all types of libraries. Being a multi-library system, we know the value of the work that all libraries – regardless of focus – do for their communities. But even we are surprised by the breadth of information available in some libraries!

Check out this article from the ALA about wine libraries! Hands up – who wants to organize a CMLE trip to Napa and visit these libraries?? Continue reading Libraries really cover everything: Wine Libraries exist!

Have some spare time this summer? Kansas wants you!

CMLE members, and other library fans:

  1. Do you have spare time on your hands this summer?
  2. Do you have good skills for summer reading planning??
  3. Would you like to hang around Kansas for a while???

I can’t imagine the answer to all of these questions would not be yes!

If your answers are yes, the State of Kansas is looking for someone to be their Summer Reading Regional Prsenter – and it might be  you! Check out all the details here: Continue reading Have some spare time this summer? Kansas wants you!

LITA provides privacy checklists for libraries

LITA 50th anniversary logo

One of the primary ethical obligations for library people is to preserve the privacy of their patrons. This can be tough to do sometimes, and we can be leaking information in ways we have not even considered.  To help us all provide quality service, the Library Information Technology Association, working with the Intellectual Freedom Committee, has put together some checklists for you to use in your own library.

Remember: even if you are alone in your library, you are part of the CMLE system, and part of the larger profession of library and information science! We are all working together to provide great service to all our communities!
