Have you participated in webinars, done online training, or taken online classes? Then you should definitely celebrate National Online Learning Day on September 15th!

Or you could check out our Continuing Education Calendar, updated frequently to bring you library-related training opportunities, many of which are online or free!

Interested in the impact of online learning in K-12 education? This article from Learning.com discusses some benefits like access and personalization that can come from incorporating online learning.

Finally, maybe the best way to celebrate the day is to get online and learn something new! Learn a new language, practice your music theory, or join a Twitter chat about a topic you are interested in.

Vote for a date for our CMLE Fall Social event!

As a multitype library system, one of our main goals is to provide connections between all different types of libraries: schools, history centers, museums, academic libraries, etc! One of our favorite ways to do this is through hosting social events where people from all types of libraries are free to get together and chat about library life.

We’ve had so much fun at our past social events and we’re excited to put together our next one which will take place in the month of October.

In the past, members have been pleased with the choice of Old Chicago in St. Cloud as a dinner destination, so we will be going there again. However, we need your help to decide on a date! Vote below and we’ll send out a notice of the final date.

As in the past, this will be a dinner social event that begins at 5:30pm. We like to keep things very casual with no agenda and the goal of simply meeting new people and talking libraries!

Date options (feel free to select several dates that work for you)(required)

We had some ideas at CMLE HQ to share:

And because we don’t want you to miss any other exciting holidays:

Sunday, August 13th was a special day for two good reasons: National Left Hander’s Day AND National Prosecco Day!
As a left handed person, I enjoyed learning these little known facts about handedness. And this article had some fun (and delicious) suggestions for celebrating Prosecco Day, which could easily be used as one of your relaxing activities today! 🙂

Cool app: LibraryThing

Maybe you’ve already heard about the LibraryThing app? It’s been around for a few years as an app for iOS devices only, but they have recently launched their app for Android! (And it’s free!)

This app sounds like a great way to keep your personal library collection organized. And it even allows you to add media like DVDs and CDs. A few more features include:

  • Browse and search your library overall and by collection.
  • Add books, CDs, and DVDs by scanning barcodes. The barcode scanning is SUPER FAST!
  • Add items by searching by title, author, ISBN, etc.
  • Browse and upload covers, using your Android’s camera.
  • Do minor editing, such as adding books to collections and rating them. Major editing is done by a link to LibraryThing.com.

Check out their fun video here:

Do you use this app? We’re interested to hear how you like it! Leave a comment and let us know!
