Using AR Models with ClassVR headsets

AR (Augmented Reality) is another component of our ClassVR headsets. AR is defined by Merriam-Webster as ” an enhanced version of reality created by the use of technology to overlay digital information on an image of something being viewed through a device.”

Using the ARC feature that’s preloaded into our ClassVR headsets, students can take advantage of the many models available to study in a variety of subjects. If you have already applied to bring the VR kits to your school (apply here!) and have been granted Portal access, you can browse the available 3D models by selecting the “Plan” tab, then “Search Subscriptions” and type into the search box “Models.” Full instructions are on the ClassVR site.

I’ve used this model and it is so cool to be able to zoom in and view the frog from different angles and sizes!

You can find the full instructions in this article from the ClassVr support site. The article includes instructions for folding your own AR cube, as pictured above. This is not required (you can still view the model without the cube) but the benefit of using the cube is that students can control the viewing angles.

Keep in mind patience is important when using the ARC viewer! It can take time for the 3D model to appear, and to move onto the viewing cube. Often, going back to the lobby screen and then reentering the ARC viewer fixes this issue.

If you’re interested in creating your own 3D models, visit the Sketch Fab site. ClassVR works with Sketch Fab images but first, you need to convert and upload them. Find those instructions here.

As always, feel free to email vr@cmle.org with any questions. We may not have an immediate answer but we’ll be happy to help!
