Using Tags and Categories on the CMLE blog
Every year CMLE publishes 100’s of blog posts ranging from Shoes to eBooks. Its no wonder you might miss a post from time to time. We’re here to tell you that there’s no reason to stress because all posts can be found… and its easier than you think.
TAGS
Every blog post CMLE does has associated tags. These tags can be used to find more CMLE blog posts about those topics. At the end of every post, you can find tag links that you can click on. For example, if you look at this screen shot, clicking on “legislative update” would take you to a page with all the CMLE blog posts about that topic.

Another way to find more specific content, is to use categories. You can find them at the bottom of every CMLE blog post and on the right hand side of the CMLE blog. For example, by clicking on the “Academic” link, you’ll see all the CMLE blog posts about that topic.

CMLE Featured Service: Scholarships
Are professional development funds tight in your work setting? Is the money to pay your registration to a conference in the budget, but there is no money for hotel or mileage, or to pay a sub so you can be away from your workplace?
CMLE offers scholarships of up to $200 per fiscal year per individual for staff affiliated with any type of library in Aitkin, Benton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright counties in Central Minnesota. The scholarships can be used to attend workshops, conferences, library meetings or task forces, and other library-related activities to promote engagement and/or professional development. All expenses mentioned earlier are appropriate and we encourage you to use the scholarships even if it can’t cover all of the costs. And, if you use our scholarship to help with costs, feel free to mention to your administrator that you have used our program!
Need help paying for that sub? CMLE scholarships come in very handy in settings that require your employer to pay for a “sub” while you are off enhancing your library skill sets. When you fill out the form, just indicate the amount you need to cover that expense. The ITEM (MEMO) Conference is coming up the first week in October and is in St. Cloud, the MLA Conference follows during the second week of October in Mankato. We would love to help you get there through the use of our scholarship program, but now is the time to apply!
We all owe it to ourselves to keep our skill sets sharp. Confidence and new energy often result when we take time to invest in ourselves and spend time with our peers. CMLE would like to support you to that end. For all of the details and to apply for a scholarship, go to www.cmle.org/scholarships.asp. The application is quite simple and should take no more than 10 minutes if you know what you want to attend and have the event information in hand.
For more info on the ITEM and MLA conferences and links to registration, go to our Upcoming Library Events listing.

Meet Theresa Gilbertson
The CMLE office is excited to welcome Theresa Gilbertson as our new Project Assistant. What follows is a bit about her and her interests. You’ll see her name on a few blog posts and at CMLE events this year. Please join us in welcoming her to CMLE!
Hello, Theresa here! I was an anthropology major at Hamline University and am currently enrolled in the Cultural Resource Management (CRM) Archaeology graduate program at St. Cloud State University. I grew up in a library – we didn’t have one in my hometown, but there was one in the neighboring town (where my parents worked, where we got our groceries, where I attended dance & voice lessons. . .). At the very least, I went to the library once a week, and was always excited about it! The librarians knew me and my parents, and probably could have made some money betting on what I would be checking out each week. At that age where I was too old for a babysitter but too young to drive, my parents took me to the library on their way to work so I could volunteer there. It was usually on a Wednesday – I would get up early, pack my lunch, and spend the day there. Sometimes they didn’t need me all day, so I would expand my interests by taking the time to look at books that I normally wouldn’t look at during my regular trips. When I go back to that library, the librarians ask what I’m up to (and ask about my parents, too)!
I took that library experience to Hamline with me, and worked in the theatre department’s library and archives. Being the newest shop in the theatre department, we had a lot of “getting started” responsibilities as well as those everyday things – lending archival documents to students and faculty, checking out books, and getting our books back!
It’s so difficult for me to choose just a few favorite books, but to keep it short and sweet, here are 9 books and 10 authors: the ‘Harry Potter’ series (JK Rowling), ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ (JD Salinger), ‘Holes’ (Louis Sachar), Roald Dahl, JM Barrie, AA Milne, Lemony Snicket, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and Nicholas Sparks. I’m currently enjoying ‘Staggerford’ by Minnesota author Jon Hassler. My interests aside from books include playing and listening to music, getting a little crafty, writing, baking, anything theatre, and spending time outdoors. My favorite non-holiday day of the year is the day I get out to The Great Minnesota Get Together. (Hotdish on a stick, guys! It’s by the horse barn.)
I’m excited to be working at CMLE and hope you enjoy the news I bring you!
From the Director
For all practical purposes, this fiscal year is coming to an end, and I must admit, our CMLE staff is limping to the finish line on fumes! Having said that, due to popular demand, our 23 Mobile Things Program will plug along until June 15, 2014, although our blogging activities will end for the summer with this edition of the Weekly Review . If you are one of the participants that swore you would finish if we accepted your wish to extend the deadline to June 15th, please don’t disappoint us! All finishers will receive an incentive prize, but CMLE will also put all finishers from our region into a drawing for a new Galaxie Tab 4 OR an iPad Mini! I am counting on you to finish the program in order to be in the drawing! Right now your odds are very good, but we are hoping lots of participants are “laying in the weeds” and will spring into action soon! It is not unusual to see people cross the finish line at midnight, so don’t worry about your pride on that front….you would not be the only one!
Important: I will rely on the fact that your badges are up to date so we can easily see who has finished the program!
If you haven’t already, don’t forget to let us know when you’ve earned a badge (at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 23 Things completed)! Just email minn23@gmail.com with your blog name, multitype region (CMLE), and how many Things you’ve completed. Multitype staff will place your badge in our CMLE blogroll and send you one you can display on your blog to share your progress.
Our summer CMLE to-do list is quite different from our weekly work during the academic year. Summer is an important time for administrative work including the Library Legislative Forum, annual audit, year-end reports, discount agreements, internal system updates, program planning, and our commitments to Fall library conference planning too. So, it might seem a bit sad, but our Weekly Review and associated blog posts will be on a short hiatus during the summer months, but we will be back in the Fall! We will continue to wrap our arms around the glut of library news and opportunity, filter and distill it down to an easy to digest format, and share it with you starting in September. We remain committed to offering ideas, tips, shortcuts, cost savings, and application ideas too. We hope this little blip in service gives everyone a refreshing “breather”. Watch your email in the event that something significant happens this summer that we feel a need to share immediately. Otherwise, enjoy quiet moments of summer serenity curled up with a good book under a big shady tree. Summer is a great time to renew and refresh. See you in the Fall!
