EBSCO Webinars

Overview of Medical Resources: 

Monday, October 1, 12:30 – 1:30 PM; Register for “Overview of Medical Resources”

This session will explore the following medical resources on EBSCOhost: Health Source – Consumer Edition, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition and Alt HealthWatch. Learn to use personal folders, and subject and journal alerts to explore the features of EBSCOhost that complement the content of these health-related databases.

Research Tools for Middle and High School:

Friday, October 26, 3:30 – 4:30 PM;  Register for “Research Tools for Middle and High School”

In this session, attendees will learn how to navigate and successfully search databases designed for grades 6-12. We will conduct searches in both Student Research Center and EBSCOhost interfaces and discuss Lexile reading levels and a variety of search methods. Your students are sure to become super researchers in no time at all! Attendees will also tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources.

EBSCOhost Mobile 2.0:

Wednesday, October 31, 12:30 – 1:15 PM; Register for “EBSCOhost Mobile 2.0”

This 45-minute session is intended for librarians and others who would like to learn more about the *NEW* mobile searching experience using EBSCOhost or EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) – no separate profile or app required! We will explore all the features available when using a mobile device to access EBSCOhost or EDS to include searching, limiters, folders, delivery options, authentication, branding/customization, reporting, and statistics.

Research Tools for Grades K-5:

This session is specifically geared to grades K-5 teachers and librarians. Utilizing EBSCO’s Searchasaurus and Kids Search interfaces, participants will learn how to access grade-appropriate resources and help students get the research material they need! We will also discuss the advantages of using databases for searching instead of free Internet search engines. Finally, attendees will tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources.

Consumer Health Complete: 

Tuesday, December 4, 12:30 – 1:30 PM; Register for “Consumer Health Complete”

This session addresses the vast collection of health-related content available in Consumer Health Complete. We’ll explore the custom interface to access encyclopedias, evidence-based care sheets, images, animation, and more! Attendees will also tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources.

Superhero 2012 Conference – Registration Information

Flipped Education invites you to the second annual Superhero Tech Camp at Madden’s Resort in Brainerd, MN October 19-20, 2012.

Superhero is geared for innovators and leaders in educational technologies and was created to move beyond how-to and focus on authentic application and integration.  Superhero is different by design.  The sessions are longer, faster paced and are more collaborative with a high value given to the informal networking and learning that happens outside of the conference rooms.

Flipped Education is proud to announce Ramsey Musallam, one of the leaders in implementing Flip Teaching into his classroom, will be our keynote speaker and lead workshops at Superhero 2012. Ramsey speaks on best practices of Flip Teaching and cycles of learning using video as an instructional device.

Ramsey teaches AP Chemistry in San Francisco, regularly works with YouTube EDU to develop educational content and leads workshops in their teacher’s studio. Ramsey recently presented at ISTE on how to become a flip teaching Jedi and is the new co-host of the the Infinite Thinking Machine.

MLA Conference Registration

The 2012 Annual Conference of the Minnesota Library Association will be held October 3-5, 2012, in St. Paul, Minnesota. This premier educational event attracts more than 400 library professionals, Friends of the Library, and library trustees from across Minnesota.

The three-day conference features high-quality continuing education opportunities with more than 70 sessions across nine simultaneous tracks (Administration & Leadership; Authors, Literature, and Programming; Children & Young Adults; Collection Management & Technical Services; Digital Information & Technologies; Diversity; Library Trustees & Friends; Professional Development; Public Services), a silent auction fundraiser, countless networking opportunities, and an exhibit hall with vendors you want to talk to showcasing library products and services.

The conference will feature Killer Cocktails, Dinner with Colleagues, MLA division and subunit meetings, online handouts, and a lineup of informative and thought-provoking keynote presentations:

CMLE Scholarship Program – Apply Today!

Did you know?! CMLE offers scholarships of up to $200 per fiscal year per individual for staff affiliated with our member libraries to attend workshops, conferences, and other library-related activities to promote professional development. For all of the details and to apply for a scholarship, go to www.cmle.org/scholarships.asp.

Past recipients of the CMLE scholarship were able to attend national conferences such as ISTE. Locally, members received scholarships for attending the Children’s Literature Workshop in St. Cloud, the TIES conference, the Library Technology Conference at Macalaster College, and for annual MEMO and MLA conferences.
