Writing can be filtered by many genres; biography, business, memoir, fantasy, science, etc. Regardless of the form it takes, writing is a powerful tool to convey thoughts, ideas, and concepts. However, writing can also be a solitary and isolating endeavor. In April, Open Educational Database (OEDb) released a list of 150 Useful, Educational, and Inspirational Blogs for Aspiring Writers. This post is intended for authors looking for insight, encouragement or inspiration. It is also for seasoned authors interested in networking or brainstorming with a peer/peer group.  These resources may make the difference between a completed project or a draft, a published book or unpublished manuscript.

Like many industries, libraries look to grant writing to secure additional funds to grow their existing collections and/or enhance programming.

The CMLE website lists a series of grants available throughout the year specifically for libraries. You can find important details about the terms and conditions of each grant along with a contact name in case you have additional questions. In the upper right corner, click on the button to suggest a grant or share your grant writing experiences with our members.  Also, for those who are new to the grant writing field, Scholastic lists 10 tips for you to consider when writing your next grant. Just for Fun: Funniest Auto Correct Text Messages of the Year

So, this isn’t exactly “library”. But, I couldn’t resist sharing this piece from Mashable – TextingDamn You Auto Correct: 11 Funniest Texts of 2012‘.  There are some pretty good ones here, but be warned, there are some that are not for the faint of heart!

Although it isn’t “library” exactly, something important could be taken away from these oh, so embarrassing, texts. Consider discussing embarrassing auto-correct texts with students and then remind them to:

1) ALWAYS proofread, whether it’s a text, email, or research paper

2) NEVER trust auto-correct or spell-check; it’s the writer’s job to ensure that what they’ve written is spelled correctly and/or grammatically correct!

Just my two cents!
