AASL Recommended App: Books: Radio Jones And His Robot Dad

This summer, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) announced their Best Apps for Teaching and Learning 2017. The apps encourage qualities such as creativity and collaboration, and encourage discovery and curiosity. 

Radio Jones And His Robot Dad “tells the story of a boy called Radio whose Dad is too busy to spend time with him. So, using all his skills as a coder and maker, Radio builds himself a Robot Dad, and together they set off on a wild adventure.”

Mark Your Calendars: Welcome Fall and the Solar Eclipse with CMLE!

Monday, August 21st is going to be an exciting day! Not only will CMLE HQ be hosting a Back-To-School gathering for our members but it is also the date of the solar eclipse!

Join us at CMLE between 11am – 2pm  to celebrate a new school year and also the eclipse! We’ll have solar system themed snacks and music (and eclipse viewing glasses!) but also back-to-school decorations, a raffle, and of course, lots of great conversation about libraries and upcoming plans for the school year!

We really hope you can make it to celebrate the start of fall and return to school! Send us an email with any questions.

We are continuing to talk about all things libraries in order to help our members and all library folks stay informed about important library topics. Some that we will cover this season include programming, tech training, strategic planning, and customer service. We have been lucky enough to get the perspective and expertise of some fantastic guest hosts (if you are one of those people, THANK YOU for participating!) and hope you enjoy hearing from fellow CMLE members.

AASL Recommended App: Books: Heuristic Shakespeare – The Tempest

This summer, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) announced their Best Apps for Teaching and Learning 2017. The apps encourage qualities such as creativity and collaboration, and encourage discovery and curiosity.

Heuristic Shakespeare: The Tempest is the product of Sir Ian McKellen and Professor Sir Jonathan Bate working together to bring the plays of Shakespeare to life. “Shakespeare wrote his plays to be seen and heard, not read. Heuristic Shakespeare apps put you face to face with his characters at the heart of each play. It makes his language and references easily accessible and helps you understand each play from the inside out.” The app includes in-depth notes on the text, the history of The Tempest, and historical background on Shakespeare.
