Summer Reading Lists 2015

For the kids:
The Association for Library Service to Children has a reading list for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.  Scholastic also has booklists by age, in their Summer Reading Challenge.

For the soon-to-be college kids:
Have your almost-freshman check out the Huffington Post’s  10 Books You Should Read Before College.

For you:
If you’re a moviegoer, see what Buzzfeed has to say about these 21 Books To Read Before They Hit The Big Screen In 2015.  Gear Patrol has a 2015 Summer Reading List, and, as always, you can check out Goodreads: here are their Popular Summer Reading List Books.

And the ALA Book Award Winners Are….

The ALA (American Library Association) Book Award Winners were announced on Monday, February 2nd at 8:00 AM.  The announcement took place as part of the ALA Youth Media Awards, which were presented at the ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibition in Chicago, IL.  Youth Media Awards recipients are determined by committees of librarians and other experts in literature and media.  Here are five of the 30+ book awards that were presented:

VOTE! For the Goodreads Choice Awards

Goodreads Choice Awards 2014It’s that time of year again: time to vote . . . for the Goodreads Choice Awards!  (Remember: ANYONE can vote!)  The Opening Round began on Monday and goes through Saturday, November 8th.  Check out the books and vote for your favorites to make it to the Semifinal Round – voting for this is open from November 10th through the 15th.  And then those books will be narrowed down quite a bit, so if you missed some of this year’s best, you can do a quick read of the finalists before you vote in the Final Round (November 17th – 24th)!  On their website, you will find previous winners, review 2013 winners,  and rules & eligibility.

2014 Quick Picks for Reluctant YA Readers
YALSA has announced its 2014 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers selection list. The list is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. The Quick Picks list suggests books that teens, ages 12–18, will pick up on their own and read for pleasure. The complete list of 77 titles and three series is drawn from more than 200 nominations….
