The folks at Edudemic did the hard work of looking through the scores of TED Talks, and have boldly identified the five best ones with an education focus. The world of education is changing fast, whether we like it or not. Technology is only part of it. According to this blog post, ” These are the stunning ideas that are at the very cutting edge of learning and have the potential to change the way we are taught and learn forever.” Go ahead, watch all five, or only one; the longest one is 20 minutes. Topics run from bullying, to turning trash into toys, to teaching the arts and sciences together, and more….
Just for fun, CMLE features a series by TEDEd called, Mysteries of Vernacular. This original educator’s series, consists of more than 20 video lessons pertaining to popular words such as x-ray, fizzle, gorgeous, etc. The origin of a word’s history, evolution, and application is tracked through a short, professionally animated, video.

Tip: Consider using these videos in a flipped classroom lesson.
Register now for the Apple Education Seminar, iOS (iPad) in the Classroom! This event will include demonstrations by schools in “TED Talk like format “(10-12 minutes each) on how they are using the iPads as well as demonstrations and presentations by Apple Systems Engineers and Development Executives on how to best use and manage these devices in a school environment.
Patricia and I have registered, and are excited to hear from Apple as well as guest presenters from local schools about their use of iOS devices and apps. The format should be engaging and fast-paced as well — covering a lot of ground in a short time! They’re still looking for presenters for these 10-12 minute sessions, so if you have something to share, consider throwing your name in the hat! Your voice could be unique!
TED leaders recently announced the upcoming launch of a new initiative called the TED-Ed Brain Trust. The TED-Ed online forum will build upon the strengths of the traditional TED site and related content, but will have a focus on education. Anyone can join this forum, and short videos that are “catalytic to learning” will be accessible for free through the site. In addition, the previous 900+ TED talks will be available through the forum and organized with educators and their specific disciplines and uses in mind. According to the site, visionary educators, students, organizations, filmmakers and other creative professionals are also welcome to join the forum and possibly add their own educational videos, which will be “enhanced” by TED officials. The forum will be live soon, sans videos. The videos will be made available in the months following its launch. Read more here.
