Summer PD from BestPrep

“BestPrep is still accepting registration for its Technology Integration Workshop. From July 31 – August 3, the University of St. Thomas in downtown Minneapolis will serve as our host.

The four days will be filled with keynote and breakout sessions that inspire, motivate, and educate. Topics discussed will be wide-ranging: how to use and apply educational technology, ways to engage students, and skills students will need when entering the workforce. Additionally, participants will have time to apply their knowledge and the information learned by updating a unit plan.

And of special note, one afternoon will be spent off-site at a local business in a job shadow. Job shadows help today’s educators prepare students for tomorrow’s workforce. Volunteers from various businesses discuss the skills employers are looking for and help draw parallels between class curricula and students’ careers.

“Are you going to the ALA Annual Conference in June? The San Jose State University School of Information is holding a unique one-unit course during the conference that is available to non-matriculated students through our Open Classes program. If this will be your first time attending ALA Annual or you want to take full advantage of the conference experience, this course was designed for you!

Taught by iSchool lecturer Patty Wong, the “Professional Socialization and Leadership” course examines current trends in the information profession. Students will attend daily seminars, participate in a number of special programs, and attend the conference trade show. They will also have the opportunity to meet with prominent ALA member leaders and get a bird’s eye view of association governance.”

ITEM Member Looking for Tech Trainers!

I am looking for trainers for 2-hour technology classes between June 5-8. Since so many districts are still in school, I am having trouble. If you are available between these dates, or know someone who might be, please let me know, or pass this email along.

Between June 5-8 we schedule 3 two-hour sessions each day (8 – 10AM, 10:15-12:15, 1:00 – 3:00 PM). All teachers in both the Park Rapids and Nevis School Districts are required to take 3 classes, although many take additional classes. Sessions are held in the Park Rapids Century School and in the Nevis High School. We do pay a stipend to teachers.

We are mostly looking for classes that help teachers integrate any type of technology into their classroom. Have an idea? Shoot me an email and we’ll discuss it. 🙂 If you’re interested, but June doesn’t work for you, please note that we have a similar setup in August, from the 21st through the 24th. I will again be looking for instructors for those classes, so if you are interested, please let me know.

Let’s Build Together: Minnesota Librarians Implementing the ACRL Information Literacy Framework

ARLD Day Pre-Conference Workshop

When: 4/27/2017, 1-5pm

Where: Maplewood Public Library, Community Program Room

Description: Unsure about how to move ahead with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy at your institution? Join the Minnesota Library Association Instruction Roundtable (IRT) for an interactive workshop designed to help you plan the next steps for your instruction program or individual teaching practice. This workshop is an opportunity to learn more about the rationale and philosophy behind the Framework, draw from the frames to develop student learning outcomes and assessment tools, discuss using the Framework for faculty outreach, and find out how other Minnesota librarians are putting the Framework into practice. After the workshop, attendees will be invited to participate in IRT’s ACRL Framework “23 Things” online program, an opportunity to utilize and implement the Framework through readings and activities while sharing your progress with colleagues across Minnesota.
