National Library Week is coming soon!

Even though every day is a great day to celebrate libraries, there is a special week each year designated to highlight their importance and awesomeness!

This year, that week is from April 9 – 15 and “is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support.”

This year’s theme for the week is “Libraries Transform.” ALA has a Press Kit to help you prepare for activities and events you may want to plan to take place during this exciting week! Check out their library week fact sheet or watch this video from the 2016 National Library Week Video Challenge

For some great suggestions on how to celebrate National Library Week, check out this post from I Love Libraries.

We’d love to hear about your plans for National Library Week! Share with us in the comments!

Check out this article from the ALA about wine libraries! Hands up – who wants to organize a CMLE trip to Napa and visit these libraries?? Continue reading Libraries really cover everything: Wine Libraries exist!

ALA Diversity Research Grant available!

The American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services seeks proposals for the Diversity Research Grant program. Applications may address any diversity-related topic which addresses critical gaps in the knowledge of diversity, equity, and outreach issues within library and information science.

The application deadline has been extended to midnight central time on April 15, 2017.

The Diversity Research Grant consists of a one-time $2,500 award for original research. A jury of ALA members will evaluate proposals and select up to three awards. Grant recipients will be announced ahead of the 2017 ALA Annual Conference. Researchers are invited to present interim findings at the News You Can Use Diversity Research Grant Update held each ALA Midwinter Meeting and are asked to publish findings in a publication of their choosing within one year of completing their project.

And remember that CMLE has up to $200 in scholarship money for you (yes – YOU!) to attend a training program or conference each year. (We ask you to tell us about your experience in return, so it’s pretty painless!)
