“In just a few short weeks, librarians will head to Chicago for ALA’s Annual Conference. This event includes a full line-up of ALSC programs, including the President’s Program & Newbery-Caldecott-Wilder Awards Banquet, hundreds of exhibits to explore, and much more. We’d love it if you would consider being a live blogger!
If YOU are heading to the Conference in June, consider sharing your experiences on the ALSC Blog so everyone—especially those #leftbehind—can have a feel for what the conference is like.
Sound interesting? Contact Mary Voors, ALSC Blog manager, at alscblog@gmail.com, for all the information you need to volunteer as a live blogger from the conference.
RUSA’s Emerging Technologies Section (ETS) is hosting “We Are All User Experience Librarians: Creating Change from the Trenches” preconference at ALA’s Annual Conference in Chicago in June. This ticketed event will focus on user testing and experience using discussion, presentations, and interactive exercises. Our presenters will offer strategies and tools from throughout the life cycle of a user experience design project, and will provide an entertaining look at pitfalls to avoid and lessons learned. Unlike other sessions about UX design, the proposed workshop will focus on providing attendees with skills and techniques they can apply at their home institutions with little expense or pre-planning.
Speakers include: Pete Coco, Web Services Librarian, Boston Public Library; Deirdre Costello, User Experience Researcher, EBSCO Information Services; Heidi Steiner Burkhardt, User Experience Specialist, University of Michigan Library, Ann Arbor; Carrie Moran, User Engagement Librarian, University of Central Florida. More information can be found here.
We are passing on a conference report from Barbara Weiner, Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation Library. If you are attending a conference, or any type of training, we would be interested in hearing from you!
Beautiful Worcester, MA was the setting for the 39th annual conference of SALIS (Substance Abuse Librarians and Information Specialists), May 3-6, 2017. SALIS is an international network of information professionals working in or interested in the alcohol/drug/addictions field. SALIS (www.salis.org) and AMHL (Association of Mental Health Librarians) joined forces for continued learning and networking. Held in the invigorating UMass Medical School teaching hospital, 25 information professionals from four countries had two and one-half days of presentations, with business and committee meetings to round out the busy days.
Barbara Weiner (librarian for Hazelden Betty Ford, Center City, MN) and Sonja Mertz (librarian for MPRC, North Branch, MN) were in attendance. Sonja also did a fantastic job of planning and co-hosting the conference. Continue reading SALIS Conference report→
