Can you believe October is almost over? This fall has been just beautiful, and hopefully you haven’t been too busy at your library to be able to get outside and enjoy it, at least a little! And we all know what the end of October means – Halloween!
We like to celebrate at CMLE, so we are having an open house Halloween celebration on Monday, Oct. 31st! Our office is decorated, we have treats, almonds, and other goodies, and we’d love for you to stop by and say hello!
Our location is 570 1st St. SE in St. Cloud, MN. Costumes are welcome, and we hope to see you then! Email us with any questions!
Hello, fellow book-loving library people!
Have you been taking part in CMLE’s Goodreads book group? For the month of October we read and discussed two books. In our CMLE Librarian Professionals group, we learned about getting organized and happy with The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Our other group, CMLE Librarians Enjoying Books, had fun reading about a Minnesotan librarian and her helpful, conveniently magical, cats in Curiosity Thrilled the Cat by Sofie Kelly.
But November is quickly approaching! We are excited to announce our book choices for next month:
CMLE Librarian Professionals will be reading Good to Great – Why Some Companies Make the Leap…and Other’s Don’t by Jim Collins. Goodreads summarizes the premise of the book as: “But what about the company that is not born with great DNA? How can good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness?” We will discuss the ideas presented in the book and learn more about achieving success. You can read the author’s top 10 tips to improve your company in this article from Inc.com.
CMLE Librarians Enjoying Books will read Dewey: The Small-Town Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron. Dewey was abandoned in a library in Spencer, Iowa and eventually became the library’s cat. We are excited to read about his journey!
Watch this video featuring Dewey and friends:
Like last month, we’ll have limited copies available of each book to borrow, so let us know if you want to be put on the borrowing list.
We are looking forward to another month of reading!
Meet our newest CMLE-HQ staffer! This nice guy arrived here from the MLA Annual Conference silent auction. (Thanks!!) He comes complete with a bag of books, and a librarian button on his vest. He has been designated the Official Office Bear.
He is currently making himself at home, checking in with the Team Plant members, and trying out different spots in the HQ to see where he may want to hang out. And he made his Instagram debut, to immediate acclaim.
But: he arrived without a name! We want you to contribute your ideas and your vote to give Official Office Bear a name.
Getting your voting skills sharpened and VOTE here for a name!
Are you reading our October book group selections?
At CMLE Headquarters, we are big fans of books and reading -and as we are in a system filled with library people we know our members likewise are readers! So each month we will read a fiction book with a library theme attached, and a nonfiction book with some applicability to making our work lives better.
What are we reading for November?? That is up to you!
We have a poll up on our Goodreads page for you to select your choice for the next book. The poll will be open through October 26, giving us a couple of weeks to still read our October book and to think about November.
Remember: these are very low-key book groups! We all just want to read books, and have a place to talk about ideas if we feel like sharing. As library people we spend so much time working with books, it can be hard to remember to take time to enjoy them. CMLE is here to help with that!
So read, enjoy, post discussions if you wish – and just have a good time with books!
