Read the article here – these look so fun!

In this article from American Libraries, Troy University in Alabama is featured because of their awesome new additions – six exercise bikes with tables for laptops that were purchased for student use!
Three bikes are available in the library’s student space at the main campus in Troy, and three are available at the university’s extension campus in Dothan, AL. The additions have been so popular and well-received that the university has ordered three more bikes and six elliptical machines that can be used under tables while students are seated!

Calling on Academic Librarians! We need your input on student needs!

Are you an academic librarian? We need you!

Do you know an academic librarian? Forward this on!

Maria Burnham is the media specialist at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School. She wants to be sure her students leave school post-secondary ready, a goal of her building and of her district. But what does that really mean for libraries??

We do not have a good sense of what students need to know to be successful when they get to you in an academic library. So we are asking you!

This is a quick survey (same survey in all those links above!), and it should only take you about five minutes to complete.

Maria will collect the responses, and turn it into some material that she can use to help her teachers and students to know what it is they need to know to be successful! We can also share the results with you, and we will be building on this work to reach out to libraries across the CMLE system, and across the state.

We all want students to be ready for their next step after high school; let’s see what we can do to make that happen!

We really want to get input from all types of academic libraries, so your help is really appreciated!! We know you are busy as you wind up your semester; so to thank you CMLE will award a $10 gift card from Amazon.com to a randomly chosen person who completes the entire survey before Dec. 16.

Thank you for your help!

ARLD Day is Coming!

TwitterWords. mrsdkrebsMark your calendars; ARLD Day is coming soon!  Join us on April 25, 2014 as we explore The Creative Library.  This annual gathering is hosted by the Minnesota Library Association’s Academic and Research Libraries Division.

Our keynote speaker, Barry Kudrowitz, is Assistant Professor of Product Design at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.  He is a designer, teacher, author, artist, and musician: a real Renaissance man.  He wowed MILE attendees with his presentation on innovation, and plans to engage us with the interaction of observation, problem finding, and the innovative process.  See his website at http://www.wonderbarry.com/main.html.

Look for ARLD’s call for conference session proposals, in both full-length and “lightning round” formats.  We will be calling for submissions on a variety of topics such as: Maker spaces, community partnerships, creative collaborations, learning commons, innovations in collection development, teaching and learning, mobility and e-learning, reference and outreach, assessment and impact, innovation through social media, and marketing and promotion.

In addition we are seeking nominations for the Innovator’s Award which recognizes librarians or project teams who have made an outstanding recent contribution to advance the mission of an academic library in Minnesota.  More information and the nomination form are available at http://www.mnlibraryassociation.org/awards/minnesota-academic-innovators-award.

We hope you will be able to join us on April 25, 2014, at the beautiful University of Minnesota Arboretum in Chanhassen. Registration information will be available in March.  It’s a great opportunity to share ideas, connect with colleagues, and explore new ideas for your library.
