Podcasting onsite at St. John’s University!

We knew right away we were in for a treat!

We were so lucky to be able to visit St. John’s and use their excellent Media Lab to record some episodes of our Book Bites podcast! A huge thank you to Kathy Parker and all the librarians and tech staff that came to participate!

The goal of our Book Bites podcast series is to share book reviews in five minutes or less. We have had people from all types and positions in libraries participate, and we always enjoy hearing the variety of books people want to recommend!

You can listen to these mini podcast episodes on our site or subscribe to our podcasts Reading With Libraries and Linking Our Libraries and they’ll automatically download to your app!

We hit the road! CMLE visits St. John’s University Library

As part of our commitment to ensuring CMLE members have a lot of opportunities to meet each other in person, to chat about libraries, and to admire the libraries of other members, we are visiting CMLE libraries as a group. And this month we visited the newly renovated St John’s University Alcuin Library!

We’ve shared news of this renovation before, and many members have asked us about their progress. So this was a particularly fun visit, as none of us had seen the final product! (There is still more renovation underway; and should be finished before students start the Fall 2017 semester.)

Thank you to Kathy Parker and her wonderful staff for setting this up for us, and for being such gracious hosts!

We immediately felt welcomed to this lovely library with our own room, and a nice sign! Orville, the CMLE Office Bear, immediately relaxed in this environment, and enjoyed some of the snacks provided. Continue reading We hit the road! CMLE visits St. John’s University Library

SJU Alcuin Library renovation and Learning Commons

sjulibThe academic library at St. John’s University was recently in the news due to some construction and renovation that officially began in June. Kathy Parker, Director of Libraries, said the project is a “culmination of years of mental energy…” and is “now becoming visible.” Check out floor plans and other information on this website. Besides a general refurbish of the space, there will also be:

  • Construction of an Archives and Special Collections Area in the basement of Alcuin Library.
  • Installation of a new elevator that will service all four floors of Alcuin Library.
  • Construction of The Saint John’s Bible gallery in the auditorium formerly know as AV1.

St. John’s is also adding a Learning Commons space that will be an addition to the Library and will start May 2016. The Learning Commons space will have “classrooms, and study spaces that will enable students to take advantage of technology…” According to St. John’s President Michael Hemesath, “Alcuin Library and Learning Commons will be the academic heart and soul of our campus.”

Check out this video where St. John’s President Hemesath is talking about the impact these developments will have on student experience.
